One wahine from Kauai was named to the all-tournament team.
Waimea High School infielder Kieren Henderson made the list of standouts from the 2018 DataHouse Softball State Championships–Division II tournament.
“She’s been swinging the bat really good this tournament. I think she ended up with, like, three or four home runs,” Waimea head coach Teddy Perreira said Saturday. “She played good games. … I think she had two in the first game and one in the second game.”
The list was released by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association late Friday night. Those selected were voted for by the media and the HHSAA.
In a four-game stretch at the state tournament, Henderson was a combined 6-13, driving in eight RBIs and scoring five runs.
In the opening round Tuesday against Waialua of the Oahu Interscholastic Association, Henderson was 3-5, drove in five RBIs and scored two runs.
“She’s strong. She’s really strong. Her upper body is really strong, and she swings the bat really well,” Perreira said of Henderson’s hitting ability.
He added: “She’s a good team player. She’s really humble. Even though she hits home runs, she keeps on being humble and she keeps on playing hard.”
