Two sheriff’s deputies in Florida’s Gilchrist County were shot dead in a Chinese restaurant on Thursday.
The gunman, who also died in the incident, walked up to the eatery in Trenton and shot both deputies through a restaurant window, according to a news release.
“There was no alteraction, and no one else was injured, just the two deputies,” Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Brett Rhodenizer told the New York Daily News.
All three parties were dead by the time deputies arrived at the scene, about 30 miles west of Gainesville.
“They found the shooter deceased outside the business, and both deputy sheriffs where they died of their wounds,” the department said in a release.
The sheriff’s office has not yet determined a motive for the shooting.
The tragedy took place at the Ace China Restaurant around 3 p.m.
“Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office has suffered a terrible tragedy. Please avoid the area of SR 26 from the red light to the area of subway. No suspects are at large,” it said in a tweet.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was en route to the scene Thursday afternoon.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office offered its support in a tweet.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office and their citizens over the tragic loss of two deputies. Columbiaesheriff stands ready to assist and (sic) any way possible!!!!” the tweet read.
