LIHUE — More than 890,000 Walmart U.S. associates are receiving a share of more than $560 million in total cash bonuses, the company announced last week.
In Hawaii, Walmart associates are receiving about $2 million in combined bonuses.
Jeanie Pablo started working for Lihue Walmart 15 years ago as a sales associate in toys. Today, she serves as the department manager for Pharmacy/OTC.
“I’m excited about the bonuses since it’s coming as such a good time right before spring break,” she said. “It’ll be great to have extra money to spend with the kids.”
The bonuses were included in associates’ March 8 paychecks. Between Q4 performance bonuses, tenure-based bonuses, pay increases and recent paid time off cash outs, more than $1 billion flowed to U.S. hourly associates during the months of February and March.
Walmart’s recent pay raises are just one part of the company’s local investment and impact. In Hawaii, the company operates 10 Walmart stores and 2 Sam’s Club locations. It spent $219 million with local suppliers, supporting 9,509 supplier jobs in FYE2017, and paid more than $17.7 million in taxes and collected more than $55 million as part of transactional sales of taxable goods and services for FYE 2017.
Meh. Bonuses are one-time. WM needs to raise wages – majority of workers are on some sort of government assistance – taxpayers are subsidizing the biggest employer.in the country.
Editor- how is this ‘news”? Seems more like a third-rate WM press release
Is there anyway that they could have better employees? For example, if I wanted to buy a LCD screen TV big kind, your employee could show me how to add a dvd player, modem, and PC from the get go. I’m willing to spend $5,000 dollars to set up my system. It’s for parties. I’d like to showoff my knowledge in high tech to my colleagues.
