HONOLULU — Two University of Hawaii swimmers have been invited to the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio on March 21-24, the NCAA said Wednesday.
Junior Metin Aydin and sophomore Olli Kokko will represent the ‘Bows in five separate events.
This invitation marks the second consecutive year for Aydin in the championships. Last season, his highest finish of three events came at the No. 15 spot in the 200-yard individual medley.
Aydin will compete in the same three events this year as he did a year ago with the 100-yard backstroke, the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley. Entering the meet, Aydin ranks No. 20 in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:40.84. Last year in the championships he clocked in at 1:41.02.
Kokko will be making his first appearance in the championships. He’ll compete in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke. He ranks at No. 23 in 100 breaststroke with a time of 52.61.
UH still awaits the final results of the NCAA Zone E qualifying meet to determine who will represent the ‘Bows diving squad in the championships in Columbus and Minneapolis.
