KAPAA — Opera and pasta are in the spotlight tonight and Friday at the Center for Spiritual Living Kauai during two performances of the one-woman show, “Tomatoes on a Windowsill.”
The show depicts the life of writer and performer Rita Andriello growing up in an Italian American home with a strict Italian father, zany relatives and relations, opera and pasta.
Andriello has had more than 100 performances of the show and is reviving Tomatoes on a Windowsill in celebration of her 65th birthday.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the heritage from which I came,” she said.
A professionally trained singer and actress with more than 30 years of performance experience, Andriello showcases her soprano voice in the play, and recreates poignant and humorous moments in this memory performance.
Directed by Andriello’s husband, Patrick Feren, Tomatoes on a Windowsill has received rave reviews in L.A. Weekly and from independent critics.
The show is a fundraiser for Center for Spiritual Living Kauai and will be performed both nights at 7:30 at Center for Spiritual Living.
Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased online at www.cslkauai.org. Tickets at the door are $30.
