Woman’s caucus meets tonight

LIHUE — The Kauai Women’s Caucus is meeting tonight, 6 to 8:30, at Ha Coffee Bar.

The event will identify “desirable and electable candidates that can lead the island community towards a more sustainable future,” according to a press release.

The Kauai Women’s Caucus movement focuses on getting voters registered, educated and to the polls “to ensure the most suitable and representative candidates for the job are elected to office.”

If I didn’t know any better I would say after reading what this women’s caucus is all about you are new to the island and the way council members are elected. It’s a “popularity contest” and if any candidate you pick I don’t care if they are the best you can find if they aren’t born and raised here, have the right last name, and family and friends enough to get them elected, you are wasting your time. The only way we are going to change what has gone on for decades is HIRE not elect council members and county manager. It’s the only way to get highly driven skilled business management people to move the island forward. Maybe next election after you see what takes place you will change your strategy . Sorry about your bad luck!
