Starting down a slippery slope
NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre (2015 compensation over $5 million per NRA’s Form 990) said at the Conservative Political Action Conference: “They (meaning liberals and elites) care more about control. Their goal is to eliminate the Second Amendment and our firearms freedoms so they can eliminate all individual freedoms. … They don’t care if their laws work or not. They just want (to) get more laws to get more control over people.” This was echoed by our president the next day.
Now, how did they find this out? Did Donald Trump, Jr., disclose this from a classified intelligence memo that he saw, notwithstanding being ineligible for a security clearance? (Oh, sorry, there are no White House leaks.) We’ve striven so hard to keep secret our nefarious goals.
Yes, we slyly work at jobs all week, pay our taxes, engage in political work for different parties (maybe not the Tea one), read up on different issues, send out children to public schools and colleges, believe in the special qualities of America, but all the time, previously unbeknownst, what we plot is the destruction of American institutions and freedoms, like Steve Bannon, or the imagined Russian interference in the 2016 election.
We progressives know that if we can keep AR-15s from the mentally ill, or enact laws which might reduce teen gun suicides, the dominoes of the rights to free association, free speech, exercise of religion, a free press (you’ll be hearing presidents say “fake news” about the media!) will come tumbling down.
Soon due process (like voting on judicial candidates), prohibitions on slavery, rights to equal treatment under the law (we’ll favor minorities over our own interests, just to spite ourselves), freedom from unreasonable searches, rights to trial and pre-trial bail, etc., will topple like illegal aliens waiting in line to vote in New Hampshire.
Eventually, we’ll joyfully be imprisoning people for treason for failing to applaud our president, and removing judges from office because of their racial background.
Fire and fury, who leaked the goods?

Jed, there’s a pretty good chance what you wrote will go right over your intended victims’ heads, or fail to penetrate their thick skulls. But you’re right, it looks like the jig is up. I confess that my elitist friends and I often meet clandestinely to try to come up with new ways of scuttling the Second Amendment. Or we might discuss how to more effectively harass those great patriots on the far right, like Wayne LaPierre. You should join us sometime. And as far as not applauding our president? Believe me, I’ll be applauding loudly the day the __________ (fill in the blank) is removed from office.
Over their heads? Check the next comment.
Irrational progressive non sequiturs, Jed.
Moreover, there need not be any conscious or deliberate attempt to quash individual liberty for it to happen…that’s simply because progressives (left & right) are essentially ignorant having lost sight of liberty and love more rather than less government.

When massive concentrations of money (both personal and corporate) controls so much of the economy, including the media, and is relentlessly interested only in its own welfare, I’d prefer a larger government setting restrictions rather than relying upon greed to create compassion.
