Visitors can be a blessing
This a response to the letter dated Feb. 22 and written by Janos Keoni Samu in The Garden Island: “Too many tourists — a blessing or a curse?”
Well, for those who find the little need and excuses not to work, but would find all the negativities about our visitors coming to the Hawaiian Islands, then this is a curse. But for those who find it a great thing for our tourists to come here and to enjoy the beauty and the aloha spirits with our open hands, this is a blessing.
It has opened a lot of doors for a lot of people, and it has indeed given us the opportunity to survive when we lost the sugar and pineapple industries. Visitors, WELCOME TO OUR ISLANDS!
My assessment to all of this is that it is the greatest, the very best, and the ultimate.
Where is the beef? And really, what’s and where’s the issue?

Things that make you go ‘Hmmm’
Ms. Estes, I don’t know you personally. So I am not aware of any affiliation and/or connection you have to our island other then simply residing here. So I’ll go ahead and give you the answer to your County of Kauai inquiry.
You ready? Wait for it … wait for it … here it is.
“ASKAUAIASWHY!!!”
This not only applies to the dilemma you speak of. It also applies to why we have motorists driving around with no license plates, expired registrations and vehicle inspections, no headlights on during the hours of darkness, no turn signals, illegal tint, you name it, the list goes on and on. You do, however, bring up a valid point in your letter in that. The moral character and integrity of two candidates (Mayor Carvalho and Lenny Rapozo) come into question, due to their direct involvement in this debacle. Things that make you go “Hmmm.”
Needless to say that other, more deserving candidates will be receiving my vote.

Ray, couldn’t agree more. The complaining locals and residents of “Too many Tourists” is a joke. 90% of the childish complaining is because of the traffic on the roads. Locals and residents don’t see the Tourists at the hotels (unless they work there), don’t see them at the restaurants (unless they work there), don’t see them at the airport (unless they work there), and don’t see them at all the sightseeing and activities designed for the Tourists (unless they work there).
So, want to complain about the roads? Blame the County leadership for 30 years of doing nothing on the roads. Demand transparency on all the MILLIONS of DOLLARS collected over the years, and where it went. Want to be angry, ………watch the “shoulder shrug” you get from the Mayor and County Council Members when you ask “Where did all the road tax money go the last 30 years”???????

I don’t know about all of you, but every time I visit a beautiful county park bathrooms and see too too smeared everywhere and no toilet paper I say, you know what.the guy who can’t get this thing running semi clean and stocked with to should be elected mayor. He is one smart bugga!! K K Lenny has my vote!!
I know, that doo doo smear really smells but the boss of that is good for mayor bra i went school with him!!!
When tourist are on tour busses how is that helping the locals, when they get lost in flooding rivers who pays ? When they make illegal turns and our locals hit them who pays, blessings I don’t believe this ! Families are so grateful for our EMS services yet they sue our state for negligence. You like them cause sometimes their tip overrides your hourly wage.
