KAPAA — Kauai Island Singers Showcase presents its first dance party, “Let’s Dance!” Saturday at 7 p.m., at the All Saints Church gym in Kapaa.
“We are pleased to offer these fun dances — and fill a need in the community,” said Melissa Mojo, founder and producer of KISS, who noted that for the past five years the group has presented four to six concerts a year in the All Saints Church sanctuary.
“After our ‘Sounds of the 1960s’ concert last summer, we had a lot of people asking for us to do it again in a venue where they could dance,” Mojo said. “All Saints Church has been super supportive of KISS, hosting us for the past three years, so they offered us the gym to hold our ‘Rocktober’ concert, which provided plenty of room to dance. It was such a huge success that we decided to introduce dance parties into the KISS mix this year, along with our traditional concerts.”
Sponsored by King Auto Center, “Let’s Dance!” is a fundraiser for the non-profit organization with a number of prize giveaways.
With Hank Curtis on piano, Edd Cook on bass, Chris White-Root on drums and Laine Griffith on sax, 10 talented KISS vocalists — Dhyana Dunville, Mike Kobayashi, Diana Leone, Christine Melamed, Alison Miller, Lee Miller, Melissa Mojo, Siri Shabad, Trishana Star and Karen Tilley — will perform all-time favorite rock and dance songs from 7 to 9 p.m., with a 20-minute intermission.
“This dance party is going to be a blast — it’s the perfect combination of dance party, concert and singer showcase,” said Mojo. “Come ready to boogie and dance — or there’s plenty of room to just sit and enjoy the singers and the music!”
All Saints Church Gym is located at 1065 Kuhio Highway in Kapaa. Suggested donation is $10.
