LIHUE — Salvador Gabriel is awaiting a new lease on life.
After battling diabetes for many years, the local man has now developed end stage renal disease. He has to undergo dialysis regularly, which leaves him very tired. Doctors now say a kidney transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Salvador is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Floricita, and their children and grandchildren. He looks forward to receiving a transplant so he will be able to go back to work and visit his grandchildren who live on an outer island.
But right now, he needs your help.
The Help SAL “Save a Life” car wash will be held at Kukui Grove Center at 9 a.m. Saturday. The cost is $15 car/$18 truck.
The average kidney transplant costs over $335,000. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Salvador still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications.
When he receives his transplant, Salvador will have to temporarily relocate to be near the hospital during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging.
