Sara Funtanilla chats with a Key Club volunteer Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation qualifying swim meet at the Kauai High School pool in Lihue.

Happy retirement to Dave Jordan of Friendship House after serving more than 25 years as the great helper of many “Friends!”

Kudos to Melissa McFerrin-Warrack and Malia Nobrega-Olivera on opening “The Ocean Around Us” despite the federal government shutting down! Katie Nalesere (she’s on tap this weekend to lead the coral and reef segment) couldn’t stay away, and even James Yamamoto came out to help lead the more than 50 people who came for the whale presentations Saturday.

Sara Funtanilla (she can’t swim for Waimea because the Menehune don’t have a certified swim coach) can’t stay out of the water. She was helping as a timer (and cheerleading Maddie Hoesel!) at the Kauai High School-hosted Kauai Interscholastic Federation qualifying swim meet where Kelsey Tanaka and Maddie kept encouraging the Menehune to keep on swimming.
