LIHUE — A 28-year-old Anahola man was arrested after he allegedly stole a vehicle from King Auto Center, which resulted in injuries to a male employee on Tuesday.
The Kauai Police Department reported that Jovi Enrique was arrested and charged with robbery in the second degree, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, reckless endangering in the first degree, criminal property damage and driving without a license.
According to a preliminary police report, Enrique was at King Auto Center in Lihue, where he was inquiring about a white Honda Pilot. Police say he asked the employee if he could listen to the vehicle’s engine. During the test, Enrique allegedly entered the driver’s seat of the vehicle, locked the doors and began to drive away from the dealership.
As Enrique drove away, police say a 50-year-old male employee jumped onto the vehicle in an attempt to stop Enrique from driving away. The man lost his grip, falling onto the roadway near Haleko Road and Pua Loke Street.
He sustained non-life threatening abrasions and was treated at the scene by responding medics. He was later transported by a private vehicle to Wilcox Hospital for further treatment.
Police say they located the vehicle on Kauai Beach Drive in Lihue. Enrique was arrested a short time later and transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was medically cleared for detainment.
He is being held in Police Cellblock with bail set at $19,000.
