POIPU — The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa ohana went big with giving in the 2017 holiday season. Benevolence was ever present as employees from all departments at the resort gave in some way.
“It is great to be able to give back to our community in so many different and meaningful ways. Our staff appreciates that organizations like United Way, KIFB and Kauai Humane Society are able to help friends and neighbors as well as some of our associates directly,” said General Manager Dan King.
• Thanksgiving brought the resort’s annual delivering of lunches to lifeguards and firefighters at the Poipu Beach Park lifeguard station and the Kalaheo and Koloa fire stations. In what has become a happy family tradition, with the Grand Hyatt’s director of events, Marisa Hurley, and her children, Olivia and Lucas, out delivering the meals again this year.
• A drive for the Kauai Independent Food Bank in November netted 2,070 pounds of food to help island residents.
• Employees were “angels” for 100 keiki, kupuna and ohana by providing gifts through The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Many of the requests come not from those in need themselves, but from teachers, tutors, bus drivers and elderly aides who recognize that some could use assistance to make their holidays brighter.
• December kicked off a food drive and more for the Kauai Humane Society, providing over 125 pounds of food for the pet food bank which helps island pets and their owners make ends meet. In addition, wish-list items for the shelter were contributed including dog and cat toys and treats, leashes, trash bags, shoe boxes and colored paper. In addition the Sales and Marketing team cleaned up all the signs at the shelter and packed overnight bags for the dogs who would go “Home for the Pawlidays” at Christmas.
• The residents at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home joyfully sang along to Christmas carols when they were serenaded.
• The season’s giving was capped with the resort’s annual United Way campaign in which the Grand Hyatt Kauai ohana raised $20,000.
