LIHUE — Sara Miura of Deja Vu Surf Hawaii, with stores located in Kapaa, Kukui Grove Center, and Poipu, said Shop Small Saturday is a great way for small businesses to come together.
“We’ve done Small Business Saturday when American Express started promoting it,” Miura said. “We will have Shop Small Saturday specials as well.”
American Express started the grassroots intiative seven years ago to help drive consumers to shop at small business in communities across the country.
The Salty Wahine Gourmet Hawaiian Sea Salt shop in Hanapepe will be noticed because of the Shop Small Saturday bling.
“We’re offering a free gift with every purchase,” said Laura Cristobal Andersland.
Aletha Thomas of Monkeypod Jam, one of the first vendors to participate in Small Business Saturday five years ago, said the Kauai Community Market, where MPJ is a vendor, will also be holding drawings on each half hour.
Small businesses are the heart and soul of our communities, said Howard Grosfield, an executive vice president for American Express.
