LIHUE — Over 70 local employers will be on hand, conducting on-the-spot interviews, Wednesday at the 15th annual Kauai Job Fair.
“We are letting people know to dress up,” said Adele Manera, employment counselor for WorkWise Kauai.
The fair will be at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall from 9 a.m. to noon.
Employers, including representatives from the food and hotel, health care, agriculture and retail industries, are hiring, Manera said.
Among the businesses that will be represented at the job fair are the following: Aloha Air Cargo, Aloha Contract Services, Aston-Aqua Hospitality Hotels and Courtyard Marriott.
Some of the companies that will be at the fair are Ross Dress for Less, Servco Hawaii, Sheraton Kauai Resort and Taco Bell/Pizza Hut.
WorkWise Kauai, a Department of Labor and Industrial Relations organization that helps the unemployed find jobs, is hosting the job fair, along with the Kauai Workforce Development Board.
As of August, Kauai’s unemployment rate was 3.4 percent, dropping .5 percent from August 2015, according to DLIR.
There were 4,000 people employed in the retail industry on Kauai, as of August. Almost 10,000 people on the island had some type of job in leisure and hospitality while 1,200 people worked at food and beverage stores, according to DLIR numbers.
During the job fair, career development professionals will provide people with job training resources like preparing for an interview and resume writing.
At least 300 people are expected to show up, based on previous years.
